The Center for Sustainable Development (CSD) at Columbia University helps countries and
communities achieve sustainable development in all its dimensions - economic, social, health-
related and environmental - by translating the Sustainable Development Goals into meaningful
policies and community-based solutions. REACH4Health is an application developed by CSD,
its academic and civil society partners and youth, with a co-design approach.
REACH4Health was developed to improve young people`s health literacy and health care access
via digital technologies in certain countries affected by forced migration. Currently available in
three languages (Turkish, Arabic, English) for Turkey, the app enables access to reliable
information on Physical Health, Mental Health, Social Health, Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors and
Health Promotion, Environmental Health, Healthcare System, Health-related Laws, Rights and
Health Insurance, and COVID-19 with links to international and local institutional websites.
With REACH4Health, users can also find available health services near them, in addition to
health-related institutions, hotlines, and other mHealth apps. Users can give feedback about the
services they use and connect with a health mediator to receive referral support for individual
health-related concerns. REACH4Health respects privacy and enables a secure digital
experience, as it does not keep any search history and does not ask for any personally identifiable
information unless the user wants to connect with a health mediator for personal feedback.
REACH4Health provides information, guidance, and support for improved health literacy,
healthy lifestyle, and healthy living environment for health promotion, in addition to increased
awareness on available health services with a special focus on migrant youth and
vulnerable youth groups, but it can also be useful for service providers and other population
groups.
